BBQ Season: A Healthier Burger Choice
It’s BBQ Season! What better way to grill up your favourites than with something new! Here is what Victoria came up with in the kitchen!
“Ground beef doesn’t always sit well with me and I personally don’t love turkey, so I came up with a turkey burger recipe that disguises the turkey flavour. Lean ground turkey is bland and boring so I came up with a burger recipe using a variety of Horton’s spices and blends to make it super yummy and flavourful; it’s bound to become a household favourite. It’s also healthier and you won’t need to tell the kids it’s turkey!”
- 1kg lean ground turkey
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small/medium sized onion, chopped fine
- 1 teaspoon fresh, minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon The Ultimate Montreal Steak Spice
- 1 tablespoon The Ultimate Chicken Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon crushed chilies (reduce to half for less of a kick)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)
“Combine turkey, onion, garlic, egg, and olive oil in a large bowl. Mix in seasonings and cheese. Mix well with hands so ingredients are dispersed evenly. Create good-sized burger patties, (this recipe should make at least 6 large patties). Refrigerate the patties before grilling for at least 30 minutes. If you do not make them all, freeze them. Base with a little bit of olive oil before grilling to prevent the burgers from sticking.
Heat barbeque to medium/low temperature, cook for about 5 minutes on each side or until cooked through. It is important not to overcook the burgers because they can become very dry. This is why I included cheese in the recipe to make it look and taste juicier. Don’t forget to toast your bun and add your favourite condiments!
This recipe would be awesome for ground beef or even chicken burgers too!”
