Do spices, herbs and seasoning go bad?

Many of these items can be kept for longer if they are packed tightly and kept in a dark cupboard. They will however, lose some of their strength as time goes on. Depending on the specific product and packaging, shelf life varies and is included on each labeled product.

How fresh are your spices?

We pride ourselves on the freshness of our products. Although the products are dried herbs and spices, we grind, blend and package based on our customers’ orders, ensuring the freshest spices one can possibly get their hands on.

Where can I buy your spices?

Our spices can be purchased at many of the smaller bulk food stores across Canada. Without you knowing it, you are consuming our spices at many different restaurants across the country. If you have a request for an item, please use the contact form.

Where do your spices and herbs come from?

Our spices are sourced from all over the world covering every continent except for Antarctica. From Egypt to Indonesia, India to Madagascar and beyond. Our labels include the country of origin. If you have a specific question, please contact us.

Where do I find the ingredients and best before date?

The Ingredients are located on all labelled packaging. The Best Before Date can be found on all labelled packaging just below the ingredients or laser engraved on the sides of our Foodservice shakers.

I would like a custom blend created, what is the process?

Begin by completing the Contact Us form and a Horton representative will be in contact with you in a timely manner.  Since all customer needs are different, we need to know your requirements to better assist you. We will review different package offerings, minimum order requirements and lead times.

What is the price for a custom blend?

The price for a custom blend depends on whether you are bringing us a recipe, wanting something matched, or needing something developed from scratch.  Pricing per blend is dependent on the ingredients we are using (ratios), packaging materials, label application, etc.
